Cultivation

While you drive through Pieria's streets, you can see lots of chesenuts trees and huge plants of cotton on both sides of the road. November sees first olive harvests, which are very popular in the region.

Fruits

There are fruits grown in the ground such as strawberries, melons, watermelons and grapes from which the famous greek wine is made.  Also many fruit bearing trees thrive, such as peach trees, kiwi trees and apple trees.

Other

We have varied types of nuts: hazelnuts, chestnuts, almond and walnut. There are also other important cultivations, like: sugar beets, tobacco, corn, rice, potatoes and tomatoes.

Breeding

The cattle bred are sheep, chickens, pigs, goats and rabits. From cattle breeding important quantities of milk and meat are produced, also wild pigs and ostriches are bred by some specific units.

Climate conducive to agriculture

The mild climate with low temperature variation that predominates in the prefecture's plains, the rich water potential as well as the high percentage of land that can be cultivated from the cultivation of agricultural products.
