Tourist attractions in Pieria

 

The whole of Greece is famous for its beautiful, picturesque views, and it’s no different in the region of Pieria. There are many attractions worth recommending, and these are just a few of them:

 

• Skiathos is an island straight from a real Greek movie: white houses, blue doors and shutters, narrow, climatic streets, decorated with bougainvillea flowers. Moreover, it was there that lived one of the most famous Greek poets, Alexandros Papadiamantis, in whose house there’s now a museum. It was also there that the cult romantic comedy “Mamma mia” was filmed! On Skiathos you’ll find many souvenir stands, beautiful beaches and charming cafes. A boat trip full of impressions will also be an unforgettable adventure.

 

•  Meteors are rock massifs made of sandstone and conglomerate. Rocks are up to 540 m above the sea level. A lot of actions films were filmed there, for example one part of James Bond.

 

Orlia waterfall is ocated near Dion, this enchanting natural landmark is in the heart of lush greenery and has a small lake beneath it.

 

Platamon Byzantine Castle- located on coast of the Aegean Sea and near Mount Olympus, medival, Crusader sactle has about 800 years and still overlooks of the Platamonas city.

 

The market in Leptokarya is open only on Tuesdays. There you can buy and try both regional and common products. The market is very popular with local people and tourists.

 

• THE OLYMPE MOUNTAIN AND THE NATIONAL PARK – The national park is a unique place for bird fauna and diverse flora, which changes depending on the height of the peaks, growing over 17 thousand species of plants.

 

• Katerini is the largest city in the Pieria region, with almost 56,000 inhabitants. It’s worth visiting many interesting parks and beaches there.

 

• Paleos Panteleimonas is a mountain village near Platamonas that will delight everyone with its view. Only nine families live there on a daily basis, but there are many wonderfull restaurants with beautiful views. You can also find many stalls with souvenirs and local products, which we’ll first be able to try before buying. In the heart of the island there’s a hundred-year-old plane tree, a beautiful church and a stream with crystal clear water. Despite all its charm, Paleos Panteleimonas looks most beautiful after dark.
